Mumbai Bicycle Tour

About this tour
Mumbai has perhaps two hours a day when you can cycle through it properly, and they happen before the city wakes. This tour uses all of them. You ride from Colaba to the fish docks and back on roads that are empty, past buildings you would otherwise only glimpse from a taxi window.
It is a gentle pace with frequent stops, not a fitness ride. If you can ride a bicycle, you can do this tour.
Join the group ride at 6:30am, or book a private tour and set your own start time between 6:00am and 7:30am with the guide to yourselves. Both start and finish at Happy Cycle in Colaba.

Booked at short notice and everything was organised within the hour. Comfortable car, punctual, and a guide who clearly loves the city he lives in.
Our guide had remarkable knowledge of local history and excellent English. The whole day was genuinely exciting rather than the usual run through a checklist of monuments.
This was a wildly interesting tour, one of my favorite experiences in India so far. Balaji was amazing and took great care to explain and show us the books and crannies of the slum. It was safe, informative,…

Common questions
No. Basic riding ability is enough. We start at 6:30am when the roads are at their quietest, the route is flat, and we stop regularly. It is a sightseeing ride, not a workout.
Yes. A bicycle and helmet are provided at Happy Cycle in Colaba, where the tour starts and ends.
Yes. We finish with a vegetarian breakfast at Madras Cafe, a Colaba institution. South Indian breakfast after three hours of cycling is one of the better things Mumbai offers.
Because that is the only time Mumbai roads are quiet enough to cycle comfortably, and the markets and docks are at their busiest. By nine the traffic makes the same route unpleasant.
Around fifteen kilometres over three hours, flat throughout, with stops roughly every fifteen minutes. There is far more standing and looking than pedalling.
Riders should be comfortable cycling in light traffic on their own bicycle. Contact us with your group details and we will advise honestly.
During the monsoon we may reschedule or move you to another tour. We will contact you the evening before if the forecast is bad.
